Rugby World Cup

Northwich World Cup Tournament

By Simon Bridle, Junior Chairman

In celebration of the Rugby World Cup in Australia, Northwich RUFC welcomed children from 18 local schools, with 20 teams and 200 youngsters from the year 3 and 4 age group taking part.

Teams played as participating countries and the club gave them all t-shirts bearing their adopted countries’ names, thanks to sponsorship from Cosgrove Engineering.

The children had a great time with the eventual winners being the USA (Darwin Street) beating France (Greenfields) in the final. In the third place play off New Zealand (St Wilfred’s) beat Wales (Weaverham Forest). The educational prize was a split decision between the New Zealand and Welsh teams who both provided excellent projects, the New Zealand team also performed their particular version of the Hakka. Local MP Mike Hall, presented the prizes and stayed all afternoon to watch some outstanding rugby.
