England football international Alan Smith took time out of his training schedule to meet up with Leeds Tykes captain and fellow England international Tom Palmer (pictured) and wish his home town club all the best for the rest of the season.
Smith, who rose to international attention with a string of outstanding performance for Leeds United in Europe four years ago, is Leeds born and bred and was presented with his very own Tykes shirt by Palmer.
Palmer commented, “Leeds is a massive sporting city and Alan and the Leeds United team really put the City on the map with their great runs in the UEFA Cup and Champions League a couple of years ago. We are obviously disappointed not to have performed to our best in Europe this year but being in the Heineken Cup was prestigious for the City and it is great that Alan has shown his support for us. Hopefully, some of United’s fans who have been interested in rugby union since the World Cup win will come along and support the Tykes and the City.”
