The Wheatsheaf Cabin Crew from Middle Woodford near Salisbury helped rugby development in Italy whilst having a thoroughly enjoyable weekend in Volvera. The Wheats, a grassroots team formed 11 years ago, forged a link with Volvera Rugby Club a few years ago when two of their players moved to Turin to work.
Four action packed days with skiing, a second division game and a full social package was fitted in around the game of rugby, which was an entertaining and free flowing display, the Wheats winning 12-26. There was a lot of flair and passion from Volvera, but the experience and strength of the Wheats saw them off. Volvera had done a fantastic job of promoting the game as a crowd of over 500 filled the community stadium.
Wheatsheaf chairman Jonathan Brooks said, “All of the guys love their rugby and to promote the game in a country where it is developing and to represent your country albeit in a small way is fantastic.”
The link with Volvera is well and truly forged now and the Wheats are hoping to repay the favour in October and host Volvera, although the food, drink and climate will not be quite the same!
