King takes Lambeth walk

England fly half Alex King helped bring rugby to Lambeth at a Royal & SunAlliance development day last month. The London Wasps star coached children from local schools and signed dozens of autographs after a training session in Brockwell Park.

Lambeth doesn’t have a rugby club - something the RFU and the local council will put right when they launch one there later this year, which will hopefully grow and grow from youngsters’ enthusiasm.

The schools represented at the Royal & SunAlliance event included Emanuel & St Andrew, the London Nautical College, Stockwell, Telferscot and Walnut Tree Walk. And the kids converted to rugby also had their pictures taken with the World Cup as part of the RFU’s Sweet Chariot Tour.

“We had a fantastic day in Lambeth with Alex,” said Kent Rugby Development Officer Matt Mitchell. “We hope that this will inspire the local community to help us build and maintain a new rugby club within the area for future generations to use.”
