The British Police Rugby Section set up a recent tag tournament in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, sponsored by the RFU and raising funds for ‘Child Victims of Crime’.
Six local schools took part and the winners were Whitehill Junior School of Illingworth who beat Lee Mount School of Halifax by five tries to four. The fair play trophy was awarded to Mixenden Community School. All three schools went through to the Calderdale area final, from where winners move on to the national finals at Rugby School later in the year.
“The standard of play was very high, particularly from some of the girls,” said PC Keith Williams of Calderdale Police, who is a level two youth academy coach and referee. “Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They all got a miniature rugby ball as a memento so no-one went home empty handed.”
