Eight schools from the central and southern areas of East Hampshire took part in the inaugural East Hampshire District Council tag rugby schools festival recently. The tournament proved a huge success, players showing excellent skills and determination developed while being coached by Petersfield Rugby Football Club.
Ten teams took part in the festival, including the Froxfield Foxes, Greatham Hedgehogs, Petersgate Panthers and Penguins, Herne Hawks and Hurricanes, Liss Leopards, Langrish Lions, Horndean Flyers, and the Sheet Players. The final of the plate competition was between the Horndean Flyers and Herne Hawks. In a close match, Horndean proved victorious with a six tries to three victory.
Liss Leopards and Greatham Hedgehogs did superbly well to make it to the final of the shield competition. The firm pitch and perfect weather conditions enabled some very fast running rugby. The Hedgehogs ball handling edged this match and they eventually won by four tries to nil. Fair play awards were presented to Petersgate and to Froxfield.
