The City Olympics in Nottingham will showcase sporting talent in primary schools and sports leadership in secondary schools and involve more than 70 primary, secondary and special schools.
It will feature 14 separate local sports festivals feeding into the City Olympics to be staged at the Harvey Hadden Sports Centre and Stadium on 23rd June. The two city School Sport Partnerships will be helped by teams of year 10 students who are training as Junior Sport Leaders and they will form management committees through the national TOP Link initiative to organise and run a sports festival for children from their family of primary schools. Each festival, as well as the City Olympics final, features tag rugby.
Each of the schools competing in the local events will adopt a country competing in the 2004 Athens Olympics, the finals involving all 14 winning schools from the local contests and also feature a Special Schools Olympics. Prior to the finals day, an Olympic torch will travel between the 14 winning schools and be paraded at the opening ceremony. |
