Lost For Words

David Shaw was lost for words when presented with a painting by his favourite artist, Ashley Jackson, at the Annual RRDM/RDO Managers Conference held at Dunchurch recently.

The presentation was made by Andrew Scoular, the Rugby Development Manager, on behalf of the Rugby Development Officers. It was to thank David for his excellent contribution to the RFU Youth Development Scheme. After 12 years of heading up the scheme, David became the RFU Academy Director in the early part of last year.

David set up the Youth Development Scheme in the late 1980s and had been at the helm ever since. He handed over the reins and 54 highly motivated and experienced YDOs to Andrew Scoular who, before presenting the original painting of David’s favourite view of the Yorkshire countryside, said, “David has always been an excellent ambassador for youth rugby. The scheme he created was rated as being one of the best in the world”.
