Emirates Airline recently announced the continuation of their sponsorship of the London and Cardiff Sevens in a six figure deal. The sponsorship provides a major boost for international rugby sevens and means the two legs of the International Rugby Board’s World Sevens Series, will be known as the ‘Emirates Airline London Sevens’ and ‘Emirates Airline Cardiff Sevens’.
Continuing their long term support of the IRB World Sevens Series, the Dubai-based award winning international airline, are flying the 16 competing teams from destinations as far as Australia and Fiji, Argentina and Canada to participate in the two tournaments. The Emirates Airline London Sevens takes place on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th May at Twickenham..Gary Chapman, Chief Director Support and Development, Emirates, said, “Emirates are a keen supporter of rugby union and are delighted to be returning to London and Cardiff for our second year of sponsorship for these particular events. We hope this year’s tournaments will help build on the success that sevens rugby has achieved this far both in the UK and internationally. We hope that in some way Emirates are helping to develop one of the world’s most exciting sports.”
Spoon Benefits too
The Wooden Spoon Society has teamed up with the RFU to combine selling tickets with raising money for charity. For every ticket the society sells for the Emirates Airline London Sevens the RFU will donate £5 to the charity. Emirates Airlines have also pitched in with a draw for two tickets to the Dubai Sevens, taking place in the West Car Park during the two Lloyds TSB Six Nations games at Twickenham. All proceeds from the draws are being donated to the Wooden Spoon.
