Sevens Rugby

Scarborough Fare

The annual North Riding Senior Sevens host club Scarborough RUFC are to hold an extended sevens festival over the weekend of the Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May 2002, to celebrate 75 years of rugby in the town.

The format has been changed to accommodate both a ladies and district U16 schools tournament, resulting in a full weekend of action packed rugby. On Saturday 11th May there will be the Men’s Round Robin and U16 School Knockout Event and on Sunday 12th May the Ladies Knockout Event and Men’s Trophy Finals.

Scarborough, to mark this special occasion, have invited all the tournament’s winners and runners up from the past decade, together wih a blend of invitation and Yorkshire clubs to play for the trophy kindly sponsored by Atlas Ward Structures. The inaugural ladies tournament will feature clubs from all over Yorkshire and the North East and is the next step for the event to advance forward. Together with the U16 event, this should make the festival something really special for rugby fans near and far. All senior games will take place on the main Newby showground, providing the tournament’s great atmosphere for both the players and spectators.
