Four Home Unions Clubs Tournament

This month the fourth annual Four Home Unions Tournament kicks off in Yorkshire. The squad was selected when players represented their local Divisions at Castlecroft in January.

They will be playing Scotland U18A at Penrith on March 17th as a warm up to the tournament, with head coach Alan Hughes of Stowe School, manager Ray Phillips of Evesham College and assistant coach, Graham Smith, recently appointed assistant academy director at Worcester. Said Alan Hughes, “This is a great opportunity for the boys to play for their country. They have been training hard, are hugely looking forward to the tournament and will, I’m sure, give 100%.”

The 18 Group Clubs squad pictured will be taking part in the Annual Four Home Unions Tournament, which this year is being hosted by the North through the Yorkshire County Union. In all, six games will be played as follows:

30 March 2002 Wales v Ireland Otley RUFC 14.00 hours
30 March 2002 Scotland v England West Park Bramhope RUFC 16.00 hours

2 April 2002 Ireland v England Morley RFC 17.30 hours

2 April 2002 Wales v Scotland Morley RFC 19.30 hours

5 April 2002 Scotland v Ireland Headingley Stadium 14.00 hours

5 April 2002 Wales v England Headingley Stadium 16.00 hours

Without the efforts of clubs in Yorkshire who have made their grounds avaiolable for the visiting teams for training purposes as well as for matches these fixtures would have been inpossible. Having Headingley Stadium host the final two games is the icing on the cake and the stadium staff have given invaluable help Ted Atkinson, Chairman of Yorkshire 18 Group Clubs and his Yorkshire Clubs Committee have spent hours of preparation co-ordinating the event, which will ensure its success.
