1.1 Clubhouse Design and Site Layout

1.1    CLUBHOUSE  DESIGN  AND  SITE  LAYOUT

Changing Accommodation

Changing areas may be provided as either individual team changing rooms, large communal changing areas or a combination of the two where flexibility is required. The latter may be useful if the club runs an extensive minis section and/or hosts large events or tournaments. However, the key points in terms of providing adequate changing areas are :-

a.    Plan arrangements provide flexibility for Male & Female use.

b.    Changing areas must be large enough to accommodate the maximum number of players / coaches likely        to use the room. The recommended minimum area for a changing room is 20 sq.metres and does not                include shower and lavatory provision if en-suite.

c.    When calculating the size required for a changing room 1 sq.metre must be allowed for each person                using it. The area for en-suite shower and lavatory provision is additional to changing space.

d.    Each person must have a minimum of 750 mm width of bench space. Depth of bench must be 450 mm,             ( plus or minus 50 mm ). Note - one changing position is lost when benching turns an internal corner.

e.    Changing rooms can exceed these sizes and may then be used for two Junior teams.

Shower and lavatory provision.

a.    Each changing room may have an en-suite shower and lavatory area that should ideally be located away        from the changing room entrance door to avoid mud from boots and water from showers mixing.

b.    Shower provision must allow for a minimum of one shower outlet per 4 persons. Shower nozzles must be        positioned at 750 mm centres. Note - one shower position is lost when turning an internal corner.
Each shower position must allow for 1 sq.metre in which to shower and 1 sq.metre in which to dry off.            This drying area must be immediately adjacent the shower area.

c.    Each changing room must have access to lavatory facilities that provide the minimum following :-

Males per 20 persons    - 2 WCs; 2 wash hand basins and 2 urinals, ( or a slab urinal 1200 mm long ).

Females per 20 persons - 3 WCs and 3 wash hand basins.

Officials Changing.

It is essential to provide good quality changing facilities for both male and female match officials.
Therefore, it is recommended that two changing rooms, ( 1 male & 1 female ), are provided for match officials.

There must be provision for one match official per two teams. However, it is recommended that a minimum of three match officials are provided for.
Each official must have the same changing space criteria as is required for the players.

Within the match officials changing room there must be separate from the changing area a minimum of
1 shower; 1 WC and 1 wash hand basin per three persons or part thereof.
More match officials would require greater provision though not necessarily at the same ratio.

Secure lockers may be required in rooms used by more than one official.
