England Women Power through Scotland

The England women's rugby team were made to fight for their win against Scotland today at Gala Shiels in front of a large Scottish crowd.

The omens were good for England before the game as the Gala Shiels ground was where they beat Canada in the 1994 Rugby World Cup Final. Ten years on England have retained their world class status and Scotland will have been aware that this was one of their toughest fixtures of the Six Nations Championship. However, even with a slightly weakened English squad due to injuries from last weekend's Six Nations game against Spain, England fought well and opened the score sheet with a try from Assunta De Baise, which was converted by Shelley Rae. It took England just over fifteen minutes to penetrate the Scottish line again with a try from Georgia Stevens.

Scotland battled well in a competitive game and were rewarded with some luck just before half time when the ball re-bounded off the posts and was caught and converted into a try. The subsequent conversion was successful making the score at half time twelve points to seven to England.

England came out strongly at the beginning of the second half and responded well to the Scottish pressure forcing a penalty, which Rae converted in the fiftieth minute. Ten minutes from time Nicki Jupp sealed the victory when she went over for try.

Nicky Crawford continued her International career with her 50th cap and was denied making it fifty tries on the same day in the second half.

England now have maximum points from two games and remain top of the Six Nations table. Theyl play their next game at the home of England rugby, Twickenham on the 6th March at 1pm
