| Friday 24th September at Edgeley Park, Stockport, was memorable for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it saw the highest ever home win recorded there since 1997 and secondly, welcomed Ball GIRLS for the very first time.
Sale Sharks, in conjunction with the RFUW welcomed Women and Girls Rugby Teams to the game, in an opportunity to celebrate women’s rugby within the North West and raise the profile of the game. Sale’s Community Team also provided a page in the programme to list the clubs currently developing U14 girls’ teams in a move to provide competition for this age-group throughout the NW.
Eight North West teams took advantage of this opportunity, parading round the pitch in their team kit. The Sandbach U14 girls team then became ball girls for the match in which Sale Sharks annihilated Worcester Warriors, in a game ‘to set your heart racing’.
The teams that took part in the parade, and who feature in the photo with Sale’s mascot Sharky are: Buxton, Heaton Moor, Manchester, Ashton on Mersey, Altrincham Kersal, Sandbach, Northwich and Vale of Lune.
Caroline Wolfendale (Women & Girls Rugby Development Officer) was on hand to offer advice to those people wanting to get into women’s rugby in a playing, coaching, refereeing or administrative capacity. |
