The RFUW wish to clarify the situation regarding young players playing ‘out of age bands’
Playing up an age band.
No players are eligible to play ‘up’ an age group, regardless of size, ability or birth date. Players who turn 17 years during the season are not eligible to play senior rugby. Those who turn 14 during the season must play U14’s.
Playing down an age group
No U17 age group players are eligible to play in the U14 competition. Players in their U18 year are able to request special dispensation to play down in the U17 age group. Players need to make a written request to Sam Marshall, Regional Development Manager of the RFUW, stating the reasons why any player should be given a dispensation to play down.
Any club eligible to field U18 players in an U17 match may only field 2 U18 players on the pitch at any one time. These players must be declared to the opposition.
