Disappointing Day for Determined but Defeated Quins

(Harlequin Ladies 0 Blackheath 56)

Sunday proved to be a difficult afternoon for the Harlequin Ladies, when they were beaten at home for the first time this season, writes Jo Everett.

Quins received the kick-off and Blackheath immediately launched a strong challenge, stealing possession in the rucks and scoring twice within a few minutes.  Quins raised their game and began to retain the ball and work their way down the pitch.  However, the robust Blackheath defence kept Quins from scoring.  Blackheath continued to attack back, putting pressure on the Quins defence.  Despite the strong cover tackling of Cath Davey at full back, Blackheath led 0-36 at half time.

Fired on by an inspirational half-time talk, the Quins defensive line held out strong for the first 20 minutes of the second half.  With ball in hand, Quins looked promising and wanting, but Blackheath tackled well and Quins were unable to cross the line.  Blackheath stretched their lead to 0-56 with two last minute tries, leaving Quins very disappointed in defeat.

Harlequins now need to regroup, ready to face Folkstone at home this Sunday.
