RFUW Youth Fixtures Initiative launched

While encouraged by the numbers of clubs affiliating sides at the new age bands the RFUW is conscious of the fact that many of these sides are still in the process of recruitment and development towards being ready to play fixtures.

It is inevitable therefore that managers and fixtures secretaries at these age groups find it difficult to locate appropriate opposition to play the contact game.

The RFUW is therefore taking immediate steps to make life easier for them. In the medium term a dedicated forum is envisaged enabling direct access to clubs seeking fixtures. In the short term a database is being established on behalf of the RFUW and details of how to be included are given below.

·         Sides already looking for fixtures should more easily find equally ready opposition

·         New sides emerging in future can declare their availability and find contacts

·         Sides with small squads looking for similar with whom to combine in the short term for fixtures can identify clubs within a reasonable distance to enable this

The principles are to enable and encourage:

·         Competitive opportunities within the guidelines of the RFUW Youth Calendar to complement development and sustain players’ interest

·         “Training” games where appropriate to enable controlled introduction to contact at U14 and new set piece laws at U17

·         Co-operative rather than competitive attitudes between local clubs who may not be independently viable in the short term

·         Small sided U14 and U17 games where full 12 and 15 a side games are not possible

Team managers/fixture secretaries are therefore invited to submit the following information to Kean Clifford at kean.clifford@which.net as soon as they have players at either age group who their coaches feel would benefit from match experience:

1.       Club name and address

2.       Region

3.       Age band (U14 or U17)

4.       Number of players (can be updated)

5.       Team Manager’s

·         Name

·         Telephone numbers

·         E-mail

·         Home address

This information will then be collated and the resultant database regularly re-issued to subscribers.
