England Students squad announced for 2005

3rd December 2004

Following the final round of trials at Warwick University, England Academy Coach, Gary Street has today confirmed his selections for the England Students squad for the 2004-05 international season.

After three highly competitive weekends of trials, that attracted over 200 students from around the country, the group of girls has been whittled down to the squad of 26, who will play their first game against the British Army at Aldershot on Friday 4th February.

With a large number of quality players attending throughout the trial, the selection process was very tough for coaches Mark Tomlinson and Matt Johnson. Gary Street who oversees the development of the Students commented:

“We have been very pleased with the standard of play throughout the trial process. With the new performance structure now in place, the Students squad will integrate well with the England Academy and England U19s. These teams enable us to identify and develop the younger generation of players that will go on to represent the England Senior side in the future.”

The squad in full is as follows:

Helen Amos (UWIC); Sarah Bell (Brunel University); Lisa Berry (Queen Mary University of London); Jenny Brightmore (UWIC); Sam Bunyan (The College of St Mark & St John (Marjons)); Stephanie Carlyon (University of Gloucestershire); Terri Cormack (The College of St Mark & St John (Marjons)); Helen Coyte (East Durham & Hougham Community College); Heather Fisher (UWIC); Cathy Freeman (Rickmansworth School); Jennifer Gray (Loughborough University); Laura Jenkins (University of Nottingham); Susannah Kendall (The College of St Mark & St John (Marjons)); Nicole Lowe (University of Birmingham); Adrienne McAlpine (Loughborough University); Joanna McGilchrist (University of Manchester); Antonia Perrot (Nottingham Trent University); Leanne Plunkett (Liverpool John Moores University); Clare Robinson (Loughborough University); Emily Ryall (De Montford University, Bedford); Gemma Smith (Newcastle University); Nancy Stone (University of Gloucestershire); Leonie Webster (Loughborough University); Sarah White (Leeds University); Phillipa Whittingham (Loughborough University); Abigail Wilde (University of Birmingham)

The team to face the British Army in the Students first game at Aldershot on 4th February will be announced during the week preceding the game. The Students also have matches scheduled against Scotland Development, Wales Development, Wales Students and South Africa.
