The current overall Mission Statement for the RFU set out in the first Strategic Plan is reproduced below. We believe this overall Mission Statement remains appropriate:
‘To promote and govern rugby union in England through maintaining stable structures for the game that enable its successful development at all levels for the benefit of all its participants’.
This overall Mission Statement is intended to set out the style of administration the RFU aspires to which will allow each of the three areas of responsibility outlined below to flourish according to its own goals and needs.
The first Strategic Plan set out Mission Statements for the Elite end of the game, the Community game and for our Business activities. These individual Mission Statements are set out below:
Elite Game: ‘To be world leaders through excellence in every aspect of the elite game’.
Community Game: ‘To promote and develop the game within the community so as to encourage optimum participation and enjoyment at every level’.
Business Activities: ‘To be commercially and financially the strongest Union in the world to provide the investment resource necessary to achieve our aspirations for the whole of the game’.
We believe that each remains appropriate for the second Strategic Plan. Combining the four separate elements, a comprehensive Mission Statement for the RFU covering all its activities and responsibilities is derived. This Mission Statement reads as follows:
‘To promote and govern rugby union in England through maintaining stable structures for the game that enable its successful development at all levels for the benefit of all its participants.
‘To be world leaders through excellence in every aspect of the elite game.
‘To promote and develop the game within the community so as to encourage optimum participation and enjoyment at every level.
‘To be commercially and financially the strongest Union in the world to provide the investment resource necessary to achieve our aspirations for the game’.
