I am writing to enquire in regards to a coaching and/or teaching position in the United Kingdom in 2005.

I am a level II Rugby coach and newly graduated Physical Education Teacher
(secondary) with have 6 years coaching experience. I am a qualified SAQ trainer. I am currently the Under 15A's coach at Nudgee College in Brisbane. Nudgee College is regarded as one of Australia’s most prestigious rugby nurseries. Nudgee is the most successful rugby school in the history of the Brisbane GPS competition having won thirty six 1st XV premierships in the competitions eighty six year history, more than triple any other school. In the previous ten seasons, Nudgee College has produced more Australian schoolboys than any other school in the country and four times more QLD Schoolboy representatives than any other school in QLD. In season 2004, Nudgee fielded 36 teams winning 78% of matches.

I have coached from under 9’s through to open level. I have been involved with the 1st XV program over the previous two years whilst also being involved in Nudgee College’s ‘High Performance Unit’ where gifted athletes are encouraged and given the opportunity to take their skills to the next level. I have also been involved as a consultant in Nudgee College Recreation Studies School of Excellence Rugby Program where gifted and talented athletes are not only given greater opportunity to train in their chosen sport of rugby but receive expert tuition in the areas of strength and conditioning, speed, agility and quickness, diet and nutrition, goal setting and motivation, and media and public speaking just to name a few.

Can you suggest any schools that may be looking for coaching staff at present? Are there any positions vacant in the development section of the ERU? Any information you could give me on an appropriate course of action would be much appreciated.

Kind regards Dan.

What started out as a something a bit funny has now shown itself to be perhaps a lot more sinister.
I received an email from a representative (name probably duff) of the Ivory Coast National Team tempting me to be their Coach - I was not interested but forwarded it to other mates who might want to have a look. It appears to be a scam - they giving the post to the coach and then asking for a 'Fee' to be paid in cash - since and I quote " they all do that down here". Beware and be careful, it sounds just to good to be true. Perhaps someone in the RFU would like to have the email forwarded to them??

UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS MEN'S RUGBY UNION FOOTBALL CLUB

I would like to request your attention with regard to coaching at the club, as we are currently without someone suitable. We desperately need at least one coach for a club of our size and prestige.

Firstly, I would like to give you some background to the club:

The Rugby club currently has three teams competing in the national British Universities Sports Association league as well as the Regional Yorkshire Cup. The Saturday Team competes in the regional Yorkshire association league.

2003/2004 Season

• First XV finished 4th in their BUSA national league whilst also reaching the Final of the Yorkshire cup.

• Second XV finished 3rd in their BUSA league and progressed to the knockout stages of the competition, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Cup.

• Third XV finished 3rd in BUSA and reached the semi final of the Yorkshire Cup.

• Saturday Team finished 2nd in the Regional Yorkshire league.

All teams are eager to improve upon last year’s showing, gain promotion and ensure a greater level of success and achievement within the club. A good quality, professional style of coaching would improve the club beyond recognition as, although we have undoubted talent within the club, training has been rather haphazard and this has been to the detriment of our results.

Ideally, we require 2 or 3 coaches to coach our Monday contact and drills session from 7:30pm until 9pm, Tuesday’s team run-through and games on a Wednesday. The Monday session is the most important but any contribution would be fantastic.

I would like to ask you to get in touch as soon as possible, whatever your response, as I need to clear up this matter in good time for the new season. Thank you for reading my request and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Salary: £ negotiable
Start date: September 2004

Hugh Michell
Club Captain

FANCY SCRUMMING DOWN WITH A WOMEN'S RUGBY TEAM?

The University of York Women's Rugby Club need a coach. We are an undeveloped team with a lot of raw talent, bags of enthusiasm, and a penchant for the odd fermented apple juice every now and again. We have been let down by inconsistent coaching in the past and would love to have a coach just as eager as we are to help us go up this season.

We will need two two hour sessions per week, on Tuesday nights and Sunday afternoons, and if you could make it along to matches on Wednesday afternoons that wouuld be brilliant as well. Ability levels will range wildly at the beginning of the season, but skill levels will probably pick up as the season goes on. We are based in Heslington, York, and at least level 1 coaching will be required, with hands on experience of the game and a passion for it.

Pay is negotiable, and we will need you to start at the beginning of October, to coach all the way through the season. This will be ideal as a part time job for anyone who loves the sport. Please get in contact with me if you are interested and we'll go have a pint.

Lynn Huynh
President, The University of York Women's Rugby Club.

West Norfolk RUFC

Director of coaching

King’s Lynn based club with three senior teams (firsts in London 4NE), ladies, vets, a thriving junior section and legendary hospitality seeks suitably qualified candidate to plan and deliver a detailed coaching strategy.

The club was awarded Clubmark status in March and, as part of our Seal of Approval application, has a three-year development plan which emphasises the integration of home grown junior talent into the senior squads.

Seven of last season’s colts represented the club at First XV level and most of the colts squad enjoyed their first taste of senior rugby in the seconds or thirds.

With over 30 RFU LI coaches operating mainly within the junior section, three ambitious LIIs and four SAQ coaches, there is plenty of coaching expertise available to support the right candidate at every level.

Remuneration is available and it is envisaged that the post will initially require the successful candidate to plan and deliver coaching sessions relative to the status of the senior squad on Thursday evenings only and travel with the First XV each Saturday, but the opportunity exists to develop the position into a full time Development Officer role through well established club/school links, local sponsorship and various grant applications.

For further details or information on West Norfolk RUFC, please visit our award-winning website or contact Club Chairman, Paul Ketteridge, as below.
