Follow Whegan's advice. He's right - fly-half has a whole pile of responsibilities to it and coming in at 15, you'll find there are a lot of other players around with 8 or 9 years experience of the position.

First learn the game at Outside Centre or Fullback and then assess whether you could play at 10.

10 can be a glamour position and when you watch world class players like Wilkinson, Hodgson, Amor, Goode etc., it all looks easy, but it ain't! It can also be a nightmare position where you get the balme for everything that goes wrong. Ask Wilkinson!!!

Your obviously really focussed on becoming a good player and that is good! But what I would recommend doing rather than aiming for a position on the field is just work hard at all the skills you are learning and practice a lot and then see where your coach sees you as a player! Although you may want to be a fly half it is always best to use players where they are best suited! This may be fly half or it may be prop but in your case it sounds like you are going to be a back. You might find you are a good full back as well because they need a similar skill set as a No.10! Although their roles are changing!

Just be willing to try anything and if that means that you have to wait a couple of seasons to gain the nesassary experience to play your prefered position then so be it! Just dont get disillusioned be willing to be flexible!

woah Wilko, coming into rugby at 15 and trying to play fly half is going to be very difficult! You would be better off taking another position in the backline, possibly outside centre or wing and learning the ropes whilst still practicing the skils you will need. And then graduating to fly half! The only advice I can offer for kicking is practice and then practice some more! Unlsess you have played much rugby you will find it very hard to dictate a game from fly half, they are the playmakers and decision makers of the backline and I feel at the age of 15 you will find it hard to dislodge someone from the position when you first start! Experience is crucial!

Why FH? Dont think that a FH just kicks. Thats part of his game but he needs all the skills. Crucially he needs to be able to read a game and take the right options at the right time. Its one of the 3/4 key positions on the pitch.

How old are you and have you played at all?
