I don't pretend to know the details but I know of two incidents where matches have been abandoned (level 7ish I beleive) in the last 2 years or so. One was for a mass brawl and both clubs were disciplined (I beleive they were docked points in the league, possibly a suspension from playing) The second was abandoned after the referee had shown 3 red cards and it was clear more would be needed - The individual players that received red cards were disciplined according the referees report and the incident went on file with the CB,at the end of the season the club was disciplined.
In both cases the clubs that initiated the problems were known to have a reputation for persistent violent conduct.
I have very little sympathy for any "inocent" players in these cases because the violence was not a one off - if they don't condone the conduct of their team mates there are numerous other clubs in the locallity that they could play for.

... which comes back to penalising those that weren't involved.

OOI WRT total team re card, how is the sanction applied?
I couod see that a CLUB might be banned from fixtures... biut would that mean its individual players could not play for other club's during the ban (3rd XV games etc?)
cheers

what - red card the two players (or more) that in fact had never done anything other than play rugby?
How does that stack up? where is the equity in that?
This approach is no better than the ridiculous school approach of class detention. Guaranteed to ensure those incorrectly red carded lose respect for that referee entirely.

just to add fuel to the fire, maybe red cards to both sides in total would be a first but that is an option.

It all depends on the rules for the particular competition. You will have to ask whoever is in charge.
It may also be significant to note the time at which the match was abandoned - many competitions will allow a match to count if 60 minutes have been played.

If a match is abandoned by the referee due to persistent violence, what is the general repurcussion?
Does the game get replayed, or do both teams get docked points?
Any thoughts appreciated.
