For a scrum half you need to focus on two areas really. On top of your general match fitness, you will need to look at upper body strength, this will help you when fending off your opposite number at scrums and also enable you to muscle your way out of trouble at the set piece. You also need to look at building powerful legs, Quads in particular as this is going to help you not only with kicking but will enable you to make short quick bursts off the side of the set piece a'la Dawson, Gomersall and the such like. Could anybody point me in the right direction for gym programmes for throughout the season for a young scrum half?
