It is probable that a side coached in this technique will shove before the ball is put in. Free kick against.
You'll often be told that the opposition MUST take the hit. I don't see why, and in my view the onus is the other way around. The hits need to be balanced. If your hit is sufficient to unbalance the opposition (the only reason to coach the tactic, surely?), you are probably in contravention at least of these laws:
20.1(i), (j) & (k): A crouched position is the extension of the normal stance by bending the knees sufficiently to move into the engagement without a charge. (j) Charging. A front row must not form at a distance from its opponents and rush against them. This is dangerous play. Penalty: Penalty Kick (k) Stationary and parallel. Until the ball leaves the scrum half’s hands, the scrum must be stationary and the middle line must be parallel to the goal lines. A team must not shove the scrum away from the mark before the ball is thrown in. Penalty: Free Kick

I haven't come across this. Not illegal as far as I can see, but safety first. If you think it is unsafe, don't let it happen. If they winge (or is that whinge), threaten to go uncontested.

It's potentially dangerous at any age group - you have to judge what you see in front of you. If it seems both sides can manage the tactic safely, I'd say play on.

To me Total Impact Scrummaging is the technique where the back row engage in a set scrum at the same time as the front row, giving more of an impetus on contact.
I don't know of any law which bans or allows this technique in full LoG or U19 Vars. I am wondering how safe it is at U19. Anyone else have any views?
