Paul, I was asking whether the U.12As played AGAINST the U.13B's - not whether soem U.12s could play up IN the U.13s.

Play U12s UP as U13s is entirely OK as long as parental permission is granted.
It's playing U13s DOWN that's not allowed.
(U12 is a "special" year - U12 players can play down as U11 under one age dispensation and play up as U13 under another. No other Continuum age group can play up.)

didds Rhetorical or not, I'll answer. "Do Level 1 courses NOT point out these basic requirements?" Mine did not. I was given a senior Law book. The assumption is that you know about the continuum and that you will look up all this stuff for yourself. And as for my club educating anyone - ha!
It is possible to get a depressingly long way in continuum coaching with no regard for, or no idea at all about, the actual continuum rules.

Otherwise, there is very little scope to test their U.12A's between games. And at this age group, winning is being seen as pretty important (though fortunately not the be-all-and-end-all in my experience).

Rhetorical question time:
Do Level 1 courses NOT point out these basic requirements?
Do not clubs push very hard to educate their coaches?

players can only play in their age group unless there is a dispensation (like the training one).
see
6.1.3 During the course of each Season, players may only play rugby with other players in their age grade unless they are permitted to play with players from a different age grade under a dispensation.

This might help; 6.2.2 Training Dispensation
During internal Club or School training, players may train together and play internal training matches together in the following groups only:
(a) Under 7 and Under 8 squads;
(b) Under 9 and Under 10 squads, although no Under 10 player or above may play with an Under 8 player playing in an Under 9 team under a dispensation;
(c) Under 11 and Under 12 squads, although no Under 13 player is permitted to train with an Under 11 or Under 12 squad in any circumstances.
However I can find no such comment relating to matches however 'comment sense' would suggest that the same goes...

No.
U12s can play up as U13, but junior players (U13s) can't play down with U12s.
