Assuming that the players actually deserved the cards, it is still worth thinking afterwards whether you could have done anything to prevent the situation arising.
That would not make it your fault. Players are responsible for their own actions. However it might help you as a referee to hone your management skills.

A red card offence tends to scream at you, unless it's a double yellow. Yellows are more open to management instead of the card. But in my experience a new ref's most common mistake is to try to keep players on the pitch by keeping the cards in the pocket, and letting them get away with too much. This comes back to bite you at around Level 9, when you need to toughen up a lot.
So don't worry that you are issuing too many. Look at the offences that cause them; if they are for dissent, then perhaps you will issue fewer as you gain experience, adn your dedcisions are more in line with what the players experience from more experienced refs. If they are for killing the ball in the red zone, then you may with experience be able to anticipate the offence and prevent it with a well-chosen word to the wise. But this onyl comes with experience.
Until then, keep using those cards when players show cynical play or dissent.

Sounds high for your first few matches but then if the players have given you no choice...
What are your assessors saying? What have the discipline committees done about the reds you've issued?
(BTW, you may want to venture over to www.rugbyrefs.com - a lot of helpful people there..)
