PaulDG (or anyone else) - can you point me to where on rugbyrefs.com the discussion is? I've had a quick look and search but can't find it (but then again, being a ref I am pretty blind apparently!).

Cheers

just to clarify PaulDg's post, Richmond were the home side, and having found they were 7-0 down after less than a minute then ran in 71 unopposed points!

This has been discussed on another forum (www.rugbyrefs.com) and the consensus is the referee wasn't following the Law in this case.

Though it wasn't match affecting (the home side won 71-7) we suspect the referee would have had his assessment marked down.

Can somebody explain what apparently happened during the recent Richmond game? I'm not a ref but I'd like to be able to explain the rules involved. Here's the relevant section of the math report:

"The occasion got off to a bizarre start. The Old Albanians ran out first followed by the referee as the still gathering crowd waited to cheer on the London One Champions. Having waited for a couple of minutes referee Craig Smith lost patience, blew his whistle and awarded a penalty to the Albanians. Without further ado the Albanians took a short penalty and jogged through to the vacant Richmond line to score the opening try, which was duly converted. The home side finally ran out to see their opponents returning back to their half with a 7-0 lead. If this was the letter of the law it is hard to imagine that anyone gained any satisfaction from it."

Thanks!
