From RFU Home page today
<<< The Management Board has approved the recommendation of the ELV Task Group that ELV 2 (shoulders must not be lower than the hips at the maul) and ELV 3 (pulling down the maul) should not be trialled in England at Under 19 level and below until:
• It has been demonstrated to be safe in the adult game . . . . .etc... >>>

I believe the action must be a pull from between the hips and the shoulders. Lifting a leg or tacklng a mauling player remains illegal.

However, pulling a player out of a ruck used to be illegal - it must surely now be legal? If Red can legally pull Blue mauler down IN the maul, surely the action can't become illegal if Blue just elects to unbind from the maul and allows himself to be pulled away from the maul?

My understanding is that it must be a pull down from the shoulders and not by taking the legs away.

Maul
• Players are able to defend a maul by pulling it down
• Remove reference in Law to heads and shoulders not to be lower than hips

Got this as a quick guide to new laws, whilst I can't beleive they are going to allow pulling a maul down (if somebody gets badly hurt in a game i'm doing that will be it for me) the question is how can you pull a maul down?
2nd point surely means you can drive in with your head and shoulders below your hips i.e. at somebodys legs!!! Am i reading that correctly??
