All the playoffs are nonsense - both in football and rugby. It's ridiculous that the team that finishes 6th in the Championship can potentially be promoted to the Premier League (in football), and ludicrous that the 3rd rugby team is the champion. I take the point about weakened teams during the 6N, so why not have a knockout (Carling) cup competition for those weekends. Give the "other" players a competition to be involved in, make it separate from the main championship - aah it'll never happen, why waste my breath!

I agree with the winkler here! Lets please just go back to the days of points if you win or draw, nothing if you lose and the team with the most points at the end of the season lifts the trophy! its by far and away the fairest way!!!

I too, loath football and all it stands for, yet I agree whole heartedly regarding the play-offs being unfair, and for that matter, the bonus point system as well is inherently flawed. We have a full season of rugby reduced to a 2 round cup competition, and that one of the finalist only got into the semis on the back of bonus points leaves me cold. For those who believe the bonus points system is a good thing, please justify this scenario.
Team A play and beat team Z twice picking up bonus points in both games. The games are played in ideal conditions and team A score 4 tries but just win the games by the odd point. Team B play and beat team Z twice, but don't pick up any bonus points. The games are played in attrocious conditions, yet team B still mansge to score 3 tries in both games and restrict team Z to 3 points in both games. Team A makes it through to the play-offs by having 1 more point than team B. Then they go on to win the "Grand Final" Don't think that it won't ever happen!

I have to admit i dont like football either , but agree the play off idea is a waste of time! I am a Gloucester fan and yes this is sour grapes! We worked hard to stay top of the prem this season for 21 out of 22 weeks I think and then to have to play off with teams who havent been as good across the season is farcical! If you finish top you that should be enough! Stop screwing money out of the game by adding stupid and frankly unjust additions to the game!

I dont think we should be comparing rugby to football at all!! IT IS TWO COMPLETE DIFFERENT ENTITIES!!!! Lets examine! Football, segregation, abuse, fighting, no control over players, poor role models, cheating (sorry you call it simulating!) I hate football pure and simple!!! I would never take any children there and see the abuse a swearing that comes from the segregated fans!! You cant even be trusted to sit or drink together because you will fight!!!! Your sport is rotting from all angles and something needs to be done to stop it! Rugby is the complete opposite to football! It teaches ethics and morals! fans can sit and drink together! At Twickers yesterday all the fans were mixing and having a great time!! We all support rugby first and our team after!!! The players are great role models. In terms of the rugby set up! the play offs are very good!! it creates excitement!

To judge the way the game is played in the same light as football is unfair. There are a number of reasons that the playoff's work, and some reasons they don't.
Things like the 6 nations or Rugby World Cup mean call up for massive amounts of club players and these don't happen in the off-season as they do in the premier league.
Look at Wasps when the RWC was on they weren't playing well and had a depleted squad, however they rightly should be in the final as they have played some brilliant rugby in the later parts of the seasons.
It also keeps the season interesting for a much longer period, everyone has something to play for, 6 teams were playing for 4 slots in the last week of the season.
I like them, but can understand that some people don't.

As a football fan I have found the Guinness premiership play offs a bit sickning.
Why is able to happen? You have a 22 game season in which 1 team finishes top but cannot be crowned champions due to a farcical play off idea? I understand it is all about making money today but this is just ridiculous. Im not a big Rugby fan but to me the fact you had a team who sat top of the league for 21 of the 22 weeks and still cannot be called the champions is just embarrassing.
This would never be allowed to happen in football. Why has the game of Rugby Union been lowered to such a level?
