Continuum Regulation 7 - Season The Mini-Midi Rugby season starts on 1 September each year. Fixtures and Festivals may only take place during the period commencing on the 5th Sunday of the season and ending on the Mayday Bank Holiday Monday. Outside this period, players may only participate in training and recruitment initiatives.
This seems to indicate clearly that training consistent with the age group can take place out of season. However, as the season starts on 1 September, the regulation implicitly forbids any training ahead of that date regarding practices that are permissible under the Continuum only after that date.

If you are U8 moving to U9 then you cannot start contact training until sept 1 (when the kids become U9).
I have not seen any indication in the regulations that prevents current U9 to U12 from doing contact training .

I believe Ken has had guidance from the RFU since posting here that no, you can't do contact training out of season.

AIUI you can practsie/train all year round... just no matches between may 1st and aug 31st.
Of course, that doesn;t absolve you from any normal H&S checks/risk assessments as to the state of the rgound etc etc same as you do during the season opf course.

Can you do tackling practice out of season with the midi's, I have coaches wanting to do this and there is nothing in the continuum to say they cannot. The club insurance runs yearly from 1st august to 31st of july and they advise we are covered in and out of season for injuries...
Advice please ?
