On Sunday 4 February the four remaining teams in the U14 cup played the semi finals. In the first match, Sandbach hosted Burton & Tamworth. A close match with some good rugby from both sides led to a slight Sandbach lead of 15-10 at half time.
With Sandbach with limited numbers, pressure from an excellent Burton & Tamworth back line led to more tries and Burton & Tamworth ran out winners at the end 15-27. Both teams put up a superb fight and the scoreline shows how hard the match was.
Worcester hosted a team from Waterloo (the Lancashire Barbarians) in the second semi-final. The match started out fast and furious from both sides and much hard tackling was needed and both the backs and forward divisions of both teams had to keep the work rates high to progress and prevent the opposition from making the most of the opportunities.
Both halves showed some excellent levels of skills and commitment from both sides. Worcester ran out winners 46-0 at the end, but the scoreline does not demonstrate the determination from both sides.
As a comparison of girls rugby, it shows that while numbers might not be what they could be, the quality of rugby more than makes up for things.
The final will hopefully be held on the same day and at the same location as the U17 cup and will be between Burton & Tamworth and Worcester.
Good luck to both sides and congratulations to Sandbach and waterloo and the other teams for their contribution to the cup competition so far. |
