England Women’s Under 19s set for Canadian adventures

February 21st, 2006

As England Women Under 19s embark on their first-ever overseas tour in February and March they will have the backing of Calor & Poores.

The nationwide Gas suppliers are to be the official shirt sponsors of the Under 19s’ eight day tour of Canada which will see the young Red Roses take on Canada on March 2nd and 5th in Vancouver.

A squad of 26 players will travel to the North American west coast, with England Women’s Academy Coach Gary Street leading the side.

Street said: “It is great news that Calor & Poores have come on board and agreed to be our Under 19s shirt sponsors. Their sponsorship, which is vital to a growing sport like women’s rugby, is a fantastic opportunity for them to make a real difference to a young player’s career.

“For all 26 players this will be their first run on the international ladder and with some added support it will make a massive difference to the development of their own international career as well as the development of women’s rugby as a whole.”

John Poore, managing director of Poores in Action, said: “Calor & Poores are delighted to be involved with one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. We wish the touring party the very best of luck on their tour and I am sure all the girls will uphold all the traditions and sportsmanship associated with a successful team.”

The RFUW would also like to thanks the players’ individual sponsors who have agreed to help support some of English women’s rugby up and coming stars.

Street added: “The squad is a very exciting mix of experienced players from last season and new talent which has come through the regional programme.  This tour will be a chance to expand their experiences both on and off the pitch and give us a focus for their future training and development areas.

“With it being such an exciting time because of the World Cup in Canada in August and September, this tour will also give us a chance to see where our young players are in relation to their Canadian counterparts.  We are looking forward to playing well and rewarding the support we have been given from the RFUW and all of the sponsors involved in the tour.”
