Watmore joins England Women’s Under 19s tour to Canada

February 23, 2006

England Students captain and Thirsk Sharks player Joanne Watmore has been added to the 26-members of the England Women Under 19s squad that will tour Canada next week.

The versatile player, who can play either on the wing or at full-back, has stepped in for her club teammate Abi Mowbray who has been forced out of the tour through injury.

Watmore will join the England Under 19s are they embark on their first ever overseas tour, in which they will play Canada in Vancouver on March 2nd and 5th.

Gary Street, England Women’s Academy Coach, said: “It is very disappointing that Abi Mowbray has been ruled out of the tour due to a knee injury.  Obviously this is a huge blow for us and for Abi. However, she has a fantastic future in the game and will be involved in the forthcoming Super League matches later this year.

“Her replacement will be Jo Watmore whose delight at being invited into the squad is tinged by her disappointment for friend and Thirsk team mate Abi.  We all wish Abi a speedy recovery and hope to do well on tour for her.”
