03 CB Send Out - 20 October 2008
Play On
The focus for Play On is now to ensure that all those displaced players that we have been in touch with over the summer, through Pathfinders, O2 Scrum On The Beach and many other leisure rugby events are connected with a new team and a new club.
Freshers Fairs have just come to an end around the country and early feedback confirms that by retaining more players, more teams are being created. The latest Play On update (PDF 281kB) gives more information about what else is happening with the Play On campaign.
Grand Draw
The letter (MS Word DOC 167kB) from Simon Winman gives details of how CBs can get involved in the RFU Grand Draw for 2008/09. The amount raised per CB which took part last year was £2,113!

Training Video
A press release and video about the two day training event at Caythorpe Court, Lincolnshire will be released shortly. This shows what fantastic young volunteers have been recruited, thanks to your help. The new microsite is close to completion and the on-line skills modules are ready to launch. If you have any questions about the programme, please contact your Volunteer Executive or [carolethelwall-jones@rfu.com].
CSU Support Pack
ERFSU and RFU Schools Development have launched a new resource. The County Schools Unions Support Pack CDROM includes information, tools, resources and models of best practice to support CSUs to deliver their roles and responsibilities - the 12 point plan. Each county will receive 5 CSU Support Packs (as part of the ERFSU Tour) with copies also going to every RDO.
Volunteer Recognition
The BBC is inviting nominations for the Sports Unsung Hero Award, part of the Sports Personality of the Year Awards. The award is given to a volunteer who has made a difference to their community through sport. The closing date is 31 October 2008. Find out more about nominating someone.
Anti-Doping Case Studies
The RFU has recently published 10 anti-doping case studies. They are rugby specific and are an interesting look at some of the real issues faced by real rugby players including the risks of using supplements, the importance of complying with testing procedures and the dangers of using recreational drugs like cocaine and cannabis.
The Anti-Doping Case Studies can be downloaded from The Game section of the RFU website and they are a great resource that can be put up around the clubhouse. For further information please contact RFU Anti-Doping Officer, Gavin Dovey [gavindovey@rfu.com].
Incorporation
All Club and CB Honorary Secretaries recorded in RugbyFirst have been sent the four page leaflet and CDROM explaining the need, and process, to incorporate. It is possible to download the summary document and supporting information. If you have not received your hard copy, please contact [bethanpalmer@rfu.com].
RFU Yearbook feedback
Preparatory work has already begun on the next edition of the RFU Yearbook. We are looking for input to help produce a more user friendly publication. What do you mainly use the book for? Is there any information you would like to see included in it?
Is there any information in it that you feel is not relevant? If you have any feedback on its current format please email these comments to [bethanpalmer@rfu.com]. Clubs will also be asked for their feedback via the Community Rugby ezine.
