The RFU is looking for a volunteer to be the South West Divisional Organiser for this successful competition that helps keep players in the game at a vital age group. Details of the role and the application process can be found here. For more information contact Billy Clark, Age Grade Competitions Manager, RFU Tournaments & Competitions Department on [email@example.com] or 0208 831 6681.
Artificial Grass Pitches
RFU Game Regulation 17 covering the use of Artificial Grass Pitches (AGPs) has been amended for season 2008/09 to allow their use in RFU Competitions. AGPs can be used for RFU Competitions (including league competition) so long as the pitch conforms to IRB regulations and the RFU has granted permission for its use.
AGPs must be considered as a 'seamless' alternative to natural grass pitches and all fixtures should be honoured where arranged to be played on them. Normal insurance cover exists through Marsh for the use of the pitch, subject to the pitch meeting the requirements laid out within the RFU permission. Further information on Artificial Pitches is available on the Artificial Pitches page of the RFU website or from your Funding & Facilities Manager.

Changes to Copyright Laws which may affect sports clubs are under consultation. Currently sports clubs are required to purchase a Performing Right Society (PRS) licence if they use any audio-visual equipment but are exempt from the requirement to purchase a Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL) licence. The current proposals are to introduce an exemption on the need to purchase a PRS licence for clubs with a turnover of less than £20,000 but remove the current exemption to purchase a PPL licence.
The average cost of a PRS licence to a sports club is £369. It is estimated that a PPL licence will cost between £103 and £164. The RFU believes this is an unnecessary financial burden on sports clubs and is urging you and your members to respond to the consultation. Have your say before 31 October 2008.
Help is just a text away
If your team is at away fixtures or on tour, a new service from NHS and Directgov helps you find the nearest Accident & Emergency ward, emergency dentist, GP or other health service. Wherever you are in the UK, simply text the relevant code (for example ‘a&e") to 64746 and the addresses, phone numbers and maps are sent direct to your mobile phone. Because the service is free, you’ll only be charged for a standard text.

Help for Heroes
The Help for Heroes organisation is appealing for support to promote their unique fundraising rugby match at Twickenham on September 20. The Legends of rugby have agreed to play in a once in a life time match. We will see the great turn out in Help for Heroes shirts; Dallaglio, Johnson, Gibbs, Greenwood, Lomu, de Glanville, Evans and many more.
It will be a great day and, if we can fill HQ's 82,000 seats, we can make £1Million for H4H all of which will be used to aid wounded troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. Bryn Parry, the founder and chairman of the Help for Heroes charity, is calling for all to "spread the word, organise a group, buy a wristband, be creative, have some fun and help a hero."
