CB Send Out - December 18, 2009

There are ten items of importance that I would like to tell you about:

Community Rugby changes

A communication has been sent to the game from Rob Udwin and Andrew Scoular about proposed changes to the community rugby structure. As you will see from the letter a series of meetings is planned with CBs in January/February to discuss the changes.

Play On next steps

Using feedback from CBs and RDTs, Peter Bath, has reviewed the Play On campaign and the attached document provides an outline strategy and headline proposals for the next phase of the Play On campaign (MS Word DOC 185kB).

National U17 competition

Sanjay Chandavarkar has been appointed to the role of South West Divisional Organiser for the National U17 Competition; he takes over the role from Stuart Atkinson who did a tremendous job for over four years to support this important competition.

Sanjay will be responsible for arranging the South West divisional draw and will be the primary point of contact for those nominated by their CBs to participate.

You can contact Sanjay on swU17@therfu.com or on 07576617964. Any clubs taking part are reminded to read the competition regulations, and ensure all of their players are registered to the club prior to the December 31, 2009 deadline.

Leisure Rugby sevens strategy

The fantastic news that sevens will be an Olympic event, means we can grow its profile throughout England and raise awareness of our leg of the IRB World Sevens series at Twickenham on May 22 and 23, 2010.

To help develop our strategy, please would you (or a relevant contact in your CB) take a few minutes to complete the one page sevens consultation document (MS Word DOC 96kB) and return it to leisurerugby@therfu.com

Leisure Rugby events

'Tis the season to be jolly, fondly remember warmer times and plan for Leisure Rugby activity! Please continue to use the Event Notification Process on the Leisure Rugby pages of RFU.com. This 'light touch' regulation allows us to support organisers. The notification means that before insurance coverage and any resources are approved and confirmed, RDOs and CB Honorary Secretaries (unless otherwise notified) will be consulted. If you have any queries please contact danbrown@rfu.com

CB IT shopping list

As you know we have moved to a sustainable system where each CB has the opportunity to renew its IT equipment every four years on a rotational basis. The Honorary Secretaries and Treasurers of the eleven CBs who are eligible for equipment in 2009/10 have been contacted and are able to order equipment from the 'IT Shopping List' to the value of £3,000. They may purchase extra items using their own funds. A copy of the scheme details is available on request from either zoeray@rfu.com or carolethelwall-jones@rfu.com

Rugby League survey

Back in September we asked CB Hon Secs to help us survey information from clubs with dual Rugby Union and Rugby League activity and are most grateful for your support.

The response from the clubs, however, was rather disappointing with many clubs we know running dual activity not replying. This information is important to us in establishing and sharing how we can best support such clubs in the future. Please could you give your clubs a reminder and ask them to send whatever information they can on the SWOT analysis form (MS Word DOC 75kB). The deadline has been extended to mid January.

Vote for your hero

The Daily Mail and Schools' Cup partner RBS is looking for some Real Rugby Schools Heroes. Not the players who score the tries or the coaches who guide the First XV to glory, but those who beaver away in the background, largely unheralded, for rugby in their school. For more information please visit the Daily Mail Cup pages on RFU.com.

Use the RBS Daily Mail Schools Real Rugby Heroes Nomination Form (MS Word DOC 68kB) to put a worthy person forward and return via email to realrugbyheroes@therfu.com by January 20, 2010.

Office Move

From Monday, January 4, 2010 the RFU's new address will be:  Rugby Football Union or Rugby Football Development Ltd, Rugby House, Twickenham Stadium, 200 Whitton Road, Twickenham, TW2 7BA.

Staff who are not on leave, will be working from home from December 24 until January 4 while equipment and files are moved.

The transfer of IT servers has been carefully planned by the IT department to minimise any disruption to service.
