President's XV Awards
With Just 15 days until the closing date, only 57 nominations, from 21 CBs, have been received so far. Yorkshire are leading the way with 11 nominations. With £10,500 on offer, to be reinvested in grassroots projects, now is a great time to encourage nominations to recognise teams of volunteers from clubs, schools, colleges, universities, referee societies and affiliated rugby organisations. Simply complete the on-line nomination form by 1 March 2009.
RFU Diversity Survey 2009
This voluntary survey gives us all the opportunity to express our views and feelings about diversity matters across Rugby Union. Please answer the questions with an open mind. This is an important chance for you to be involved in shaping our future diversity work and to ensure our organisation and the game is open and accessible to all. So far over 650 volunteers have taken the survey. It should take no more than 3 minutes to complete and the answers to the questions are completely confidential.
The survey has been created using the RFUs online survey tool and set so that no individual can be identified through their responses as all the information is simply collated and converted into statistics at source. If you have any questions, please contact Nic Scott, RFU Equity, Inclusion & Safeguarding Manager [email@example.com]. Please forward the survey link on to volunteers or staff who are passionate about our game - people in CBs, clubs, schools, colleges, universities or others that you know.
Economic Climate: Train the Trainer
At the CB Treasurers' Conference in December, the idea of offering training sessions for CB volunteers about important financial issues found favour. One or two people in each CB will be trained so that they can educate their clubs. The interactive agenda will cover: Incorporation, CASCs, Charitable Status, Accounting issues, Club risks (Vicarious liability, Health and safety), Tax (corporation and VAT), Financial Hit Squad, what to look for in club accounts. There will be case studies and a Question & Answer session.
Four 'regional' sessions for volunteers and staff are planned which will be run by Richard Baldwin, David Ingmire, Richard Metcalfe, John Moulson and Karena Vleck. To reserve your places and see the full agenda, please contact Karen Mackay [firstname.lastname@example.org].
CBs and Student Rugby
The Students RFU and Students Development Department are keen to improve links and communication with all CBs and in order to achieve this, propose:
- 1) Please email the name(s), role(s) and full contact details the best person to speak to in your CB regarding student rugby development for both FE Colleges and Universities to [email@example.com].
- 2) For the first time, the SRFU would like to invite CBs to each send one representative to the National Students Conference which will cover all aspects of University Rugby, particularly developing partnerships between SRFU, Universities, and CBs. This will take place at Twickenham on Tuesday 21 April. Further details will be sent out in the near future.
- 3) The SRFU is in the process of writing a new Strategic Plan, in line with the RFU strategic plan and whole sport plan and is keen to involve a member of the group who can represent county CBs. This contribution will be invaluable as we strive to achieve a closer working relationship between CBs and the Student Game. Rob Udwin as Chairman of the Community Rugby Standing Committee has agreed that one representative will be selected from any names which are put forward. Please email the name, CB role, and full contact details, of any nominees to [firstname.lastname@example.org] by 6 March as the first meeting will take place between 23 March and 3 April.
Incorporation - Companies Ltd by Guarantee - template tax letter
Please note that there is an amended and updated template tax letter which Clubs and CBs need to be aware of if they are considering incorporation as a Company Ltd by Guarantee. The template tax letter wording has been amended following a question that has been raised by HMRC. This template tax letter needs to be used instead of the document on the circulated Incorporation CD Rom.
Companies Act 2006 compliance - Incorporation - Companies Ltd by Guarantee
Please note that the existing template for memorandum and articles can only be used up until 1 October 2009. For those clubs and CBs considering incorporating after 1 October 2009, a new template based on the new model articles are being drafted by the RFU in order to be Companies Act 2006 compliant. A note as to the changes needed, and the amended Articles, will be posted on the website shortly. If there are any questions please contact Karena Vleck [email@example.com].
Facilities Guidance Notes
A new Facilities Guidance Note has been produced outlining the minimum standards for the design and construction of RFU compliant Changing Rooms and Clubhouses. This is aimed at new facilities, extension to an existing facility or refurbishment of an existing facility. The guide should assist clubs and appointed consultants when undertaking the feasibility study, scheme development and any subsequent applications to the RFU Capital Investment Programme or Rugby Football Foundation.
The guidance note was available in electronic form on RFU.com and hard copies will be available and distributed in due course. Existing facility guidance notes on planning permission, grass pitches, pitch maintenance, floodlighting and artificial grass pitches can be found in the Managing Rugby section of the RFU website. Clubs should be directed to these guidance notes, which provide minimum specification standards, as a starting point to help plan and develop facility projects.
HSBC Rugby Festivals & SOS iRB Kit Aid
As part of the HSBC Rugby Festivals programme we have joined forces with SOS Kit Aid to bring together schools from the UK & South Africa. SOS Kit Aid is an IRB sanctioned initiative that gives less advantaged children around the world a chance to play and develop rugby through the collection and distribution of unwanted kit. Over the coming months, 16 schools across the country will act as a 'hubs' for kit collection so local schools, businesses and residents can donate their old rugby kit to be delivered to Port Elizabeth. Please send all spare kit - Rugby shorts, shirts, socks, boots, training kit, bags, tracksuits and balls - to your local hub school.
Daily Mail Schools Day
The ERFSU Nomination form for CB places at Daily Mail schools day have been sent out. This year there are 6 places available per CB. Please speak to your ERFSU Rep, CSU Hon Sec or RDP Chair for more details. In addition the ERFSU Rugby Development Committee have reserved two tables in the Spirit of Rugby to reward those who you believe have made a special contribution to Schools Rugby. This could range from someone who has introduced Rugby Union into a school sport programme, to someone that has given many years service running the game in their school. To make a nomination please contact Hayley Mintern on 020 8831 6756 or [firstname.lastname@example.org] by 1 March 2009.
A new website search engine, powered by Google, was launched on 1 February 2009. We now have a single search product that covers all key RFU content, including rfu.com, England Rugby, Community Rugby and our various microsites (like the museum site, regulations site and the Rugby Store). Congratulations to the web team for their persistence in getting this online and thoroughness in testing. If you have any questions around this change, please contact Kate Saunders, Digital Media Manager, [email@example.com] and happy and successful searching!
