CB Send Out - August 27, 2010

There are seven items of importance that I would like to tell you about:

Criminal Records Bureau e-Applications

From October 4, 2010 volunteers and staff working with young children or vulnerable adults will be able to complete a CRB application form on-line. The system is approved by the CRB and operated by Atlantic Data who have 10 years experience in CRB checking. Applicants will receive a paper certificate and cleared applications will automatically be updated on RugbyFirst. The benefits will be:

  • a much quicker turnaround – 60% of applications are confirmed within 10 days
  • virtual elimination of mistakes on forms
  • efficiency savings for clubs, CBs and RFU – since time and cost of postage are greatly reduced
  • better reporting and tracking abilities for users

The RFU have been awarded a Ministry of Justice digital security certificate for both our online and physical security processes for this system. The software will be updated when the ISA-registration review has been completed by the Government. Further details will be announced in the near future, with updates and more information via the RFU's safeguarding network website, RUSafe, or contact

CB Orientation Day

Many thanks to the Constituent Bodies who have nominated their new volunteers (or new deputies/assistants) to take part in CB Orientation Day on Wednesday, October 13 in the Presidents Suite/Council Room/Members Lounge at Twickenham. A number of keynote speakers are lined up with over 15 market stalls, new mini workshops, and an optional stadium tour. The limited number of places are running out, so please send the names, roles and email addresses of potential attendees to by September 10. Please see our is a one page description of the CB Orientation Day (PDF 74kB).

Rugby Football Foundation

Please see details of the RFF Awards for the period January to July 2010 (PDF 179kB). The new financial year brings a new set of criteria for the RFF Groundmatch Grant Scheme. Because of the popularity of the scheme, the new criteria will ensure that the money available is accessible to as many clubs as possible. With this in mind, the key changes are as follows:

  • The maximum Groundmatch Grant available is £5,000
  • It is no longer possible to apply for an Interest Free Loan and a Groundmatch Grant for the same project
  • Clubs are only able to apply for one grant in any 24 month period (calculated from the last payment made on any previous award)

For full details please refer to

Incorporation & CASC

Three guidance documents have been published recently and sent to clubs via the Community Rugby ezine:

Please contact your Funding and Facilities Manager if you have any queries:

Sport England Small Grants Programme

Designed to help local communities increase access to sport or to improve the experience of people playing sport, this programme gives grants of £300-£10,000 to eligible organisations. The Sport England Small Grants Programme guidance note (PDF 362kB) and Sport England Small Grants Programme pre-application checklist (PDF 38kB) provide more details.

CBRDP/CSU Conference

The date of the CBRDP/CSU Conference has changed to January 15 and 16, 2011. All information has been sent out to the CBRDP Chairs and CSU Secretaries. Delegates will have the opportunity to discuss the continuing development of CB RDPs and the partnership with County Schools unions. We are hopeful that all CBs will be represented.

Schools & RugbyFirst

All schools in the country have now been added to RugbyFirst. All those in membership of the England Rugby Football School’s Union are linked to the relevant CB and can be found under the groups section within a CB page. This information is uploaded via the Schools Department and will allow you to review the schools in membership. This additional functionality for your CB means you can communicate directly with them and utilise functions such as player registration and the competition tool. From September all the schools will be issued with login details and will be asked to complete an activity audit. For more information please contact Hayley Mintern at
