Light Up Your Community Rugby Club

Floodlights add a new dimension to training at Kings Norton Rugby Football Club

Floodlighting could make a real difference at your rugby club, increasing the opportunities for training and aiding the preparation of the your club's teams on the pitch.

However, installing floodlights is a major project for a community club to undertake.  There are technical specifications to consider and important issues surrounding planning permission.

To help community club managers make informed decisions, the RFU has produced a Floodlight Guidance Document (PDF 185kB) to ensure professional standards are adhered to when working with qualified lighting engineers.  This can be read in tandem with the Planning Permission Guidance Document (PDF 94kB) to assist you in the design stages.

A useful start point is the Facilities Case Studies section, includes information on how clubs in similar situations installed or upgraded their floodlights.  Particularly helpful is the information on how they secured funding for the project, often the most challenging aspect.

We also have a list of approved floodlight contractors on our Facilities Suppliers page.
