RFU Tractors and Soil Reliever Support

As a measure of the RFU’s longstanding commitment to pitch care, we have invested in a number of tractor and soil reliever units which are designated to help community rugby clubs.

Rugby pitches are given a hard time during the season, especially during winter and the inevitable wet weather.  Pitches can become compact which seals the surface and prevents excess water draining away.

To counteract this problem – the major cause of postponed fixtures – it is necessary to aerate the pitch.  The best method is to use a deep spiker which creates suitable holes for drainage.  In the professional game pitches are aerated four times season and this can be replicated in the community game.

Information is available on maintenance of grass pitches and clubs are urged to make use of the RFU’s soil reliever and aeration equipment.  This equipment is designed to help clubs achieve high-quality playing surfaces throughout the season and long-term pitch improvement.

Use an RFU Tractor

The units have been placed with partner clubs and organisations throughout the country.  They will be able to deliver discounted grounds maintenance services and advice to local clubs. Interested clubs should contact their nearest centre or get in contact with their local Regional Development Officer (RDO).
