RFU Grand Draw 2010/11 Results
For the second time more than 700 clubs and schools took part in the RFU Grand Draw, raising in excess of £455,000, just short of last year's record. To date the Draw has raised more than £2.6 million for the community game.
The Draw took place at Bournemouth RFC on Friday, March 25 and was conducted by RFU Vice President Willie Wildash on his home turf of Dorset & Wilts.
First out of the hat and winner of the top prize of £10,000 was Peter Thomas of Newport Salop, who is celebrating his 21st birthday and thought the call from RFU Promoter Simon Winman was a wind up from his mates. He was even more shocked when he found it wasn't!
Schools did particularly well this year with the 2nd and 3rd prizes of Business Class flights from Emirates and bmi going to tickets sold by South Moulton Community College and Ripley St Thomas School.
Prize winners came from all over England (and two in Wales!). Clubs as far apart as Cornwall and North Yorkshire sold winning tickets and Windsor Boys School maintained its remarkable record of selling a winning ticket in the last FOUR Draws!
Top of the league for raising the most money was Bishops Stortford RFC who returned to the top spot after being knocked off by Truro School last year. The club's demon fundraiser Ros Denton has sold more than £7,000 of tickets consistently in almost every Draw.
With over 40 prizes in the Main Draw and almost 30 in Club and Schools Draws there were plenty of happy people when the results were announced. Thanks to the generosity of the RFU’s business partners and sponsors the prizes range from cash, hospitality packages, tickets to sporting events, wine, champagne and, for the first time this year, a 32mb wi-fi iPad!
