The Player Proficiency Awards
Development, by its very nature and as it should be, makes change inevitable. As part of a review of Player Development, and in line with current philosophy and principles of child, player and coach development the RFU Proficiency Awards will discontinue at the end of this season. No new orders will be taken with immediate effect.
The Proficiency Awards attempted to provide an emphasis on skill development rather than team development and at the time was an innovative and positive development. However, since its inception more information and research has been made available which leans much more towards coaching through games, reflective practice and a players ownership for their own learning, which does not align with the awards
It is understood that some clubs and schools may wish to continue to use the awards and may devise and print their own certification. However certificates will no longer be available from the RFU.
