Fundraising award 2006/07
Bridlington RFC (Yorkshire RFU)
In June 2005, Bridlington RUFC’s Management Committee ordered the building of a new Family and Disabled function room, costing in the region of £100,000, to provide extra space to accommodate rapid increases in members, especially junior players and their families. The club had spent five years raising monies for the extension, and alongside a £5,000 grant and £45,000 loan from the Rugby Football Foundation (RFF), the club were able to build their new function room.
The club then set about the task of repaying their ten-year, interest free RFF loan. The committee sought ideas from their members and five major fundraising events were agreed and targeted. Each project was headed up by a committee member who formed a sub-committee of new volunteers to organise and deliver the event. The incredible hard work and effort that went into planning these events has resulted in them being able to complete their ambitious goal of repaying their loan in 20 months, rather than the original target of 10 years.
