Girl Power Award 2009/10

Winner: Birkenhead Park

In May 2009 Birkenhead Park decided to introduce a women's team to complement the development of the club's junior section and fill a significant gap in the local rugby landscape. An initial meeting attracted over 30 women, the majority of which had no prior connection to the club or, indeed, the sport. Some expressed a desire to simply train with the team to get fit, but subsequently every woman who initially signed up has become an integral player in the squad. The Panthers have already played eight games to ensure their inclusion in the RFUW league structure next season.
