Veterans award 2007/08
Cockermouth RFC (Cumbria)
The Rams Over 35 Veterans team started at Cockermouth in September 1977. Their mission was to continue to enjoy rugby and fundraise for others. The squad is for players aged 35 to 60 and consists of approximately 40 players who no longer need a coach, but a chiropractor, to get them round the pitch, looking very distinctive in their pink and purple quadrant shirts.
All the Rams games are charity matches and this year they have raised £600 for Cumbria Air Ambulance, £920 for Genetics Research at the RVI Hospital in Newcastle, £2,371 for West Cumbria Hospice at Home, and £1,200 for Eden Valley Hospice - a grand total so far this season of £5,091.
The Rams recently held their 30th Year Anniversary dinner. In those thirty years 138 players have represented the Rams. At the dinner the U18 Girls and the U17 Boys served food and drink; a real mix of the young and not so young. With a flourishing Mini, Midi and Youth section and a 1XV, it is very positive to have such a successful Veterans section at Cockermouth RFC, proving that rugby can be enjoyed at any age.
