This is an important area of focus for the RFU in working with schools. It is also the central element of the coalition government’s programme for school sport. Competition is one of the key tools for engaging children with physical activity and with rugby union for those wanting to give sport a try.

Competition in state schools is mapped out by the competition pathway. The RFU has also produced a School Games Organisers Guide to help us to jointly create a quality competitive environment for young players.

There are local opportunities to play which could ultimately see your school team play on the hallowed Twickenham pitch. Every school at every level is welcome; the competition is about giving as many boys and girls as possible a taste of rugby.

In addition, there are local playing opportunities for special schools as well as the RFU Proficiency Awards to encourage children to achieve their personal best in the core rugby and sporting skills.
