Year 8 Lesson Plans

The following innovative ten-week programme of progressive lesson plans for Year 8 teach the principles of Invasion Games through the medium of tag or contact rugby. These sessions are designed to enhance the consistency, quality and choice of skills used in Y ear 7. Pupils also learn how to organise themselves as a team and explore the principles of both attack and defence. Pupils are also introduced to the basic principles of coaching and refereeing.

Three	Play a game with uneven sides e.g 4v3 allowing pupils to use a range of tactics and strategies in both attack and defence. Adapt and develop basic defencsive skills - denial of space, pressure and cover in order to regain possession.	Lesson three (PDF 1.7MB) Video clip to follow
Four	Successfully use a range of tactics to outwit your opponents. Continue to emphasise 'go forward' and 'support' whilst introducing the 3rd Principle of Play - CONTINUITY.	Lesson four (PDF 1.6MB) Video clip to follow
Five	Help players to explore the basic prinicple of attack (skills to outflank or penetrate a defensive formation). Utilising long or spoin passes to help outflank opponents.	Lesson five (PDF 1.9MB) Video clip to follow
