Managing Student Rugby

The RFU has identified Higher Education rugby as an important part of the game and is on hand to provide support, information and guidance to development of rugby union at these levels.

To that end, the RFU is the only national governing body with dedicated, specialist staff – Rugby Union Student Liaison Officers (RUSLOs) (PDF 16kB)  – who work to support university rugby clubs.

As a measure of the RFU’s commitment, three full time RUSLOs patrol the North West, Midlands East and London North areas, while most other areas have part time officers. They are an enthusiastic point of contact and can assist with all matters relating to university rugby.

For individuals and groups seeking to establish university rugby clubs, and those in existing societies looking to maximise their potential, the RFU can help.

University rugby clubs are unique in the fact that while they are RFU members, they are also affiliated to other organisations, such as the Students’ RFU. In addition, university rugby clubs are linked by their institutions to British Universities and College Sport (BUCS), the organisation which manages university championships.

The RFU works closely with BUCS, with the university rugby champions crowned at Twickenham each year.

On all matters relating to university and college rugby, please contact the RFU.
