|
ENGLAND’S World Cup hero Lawrence Dallaglio is backing the Sweet Chariot Tour of the Webb Ellis Cup to his home county of Middlesex. The World Cup will spend three days in the county next week at the end of a four-month nationwide tour. From Barrow to Bognor, Newcastle to Newquay, more than 900,000 people have seen the trophy lifted by Dallaglio and his team-mates on that unforgettable day in Sydney – 22nd November 2003. London Wasps star Dallaglio said: "I am delighted to see that the Webb Ellis Cup is coming to my own county of Middlesex. “The number of people that have turned out to greet the Cup on the Sweet Chariot Tour so far has been amazing and I doubt that it will be any different in Middlesex. “I hope that people will participate fully in the events that have been planned and that they all have a great time." Fellow World Cup star Lewis Moody will be at John Lewis in Oxford Street on the Thursday, signing autographs and posing for photographs. Those events are a mix of public and private as well as rugby activities for youth and adults. The Rugby Football Union’s specially commissioned 40-ton open-out Travelling Exhibition Unit will also be in the county. The unit contains the Calcutta Cup, the three Hong Kong 7s trophies won by England, the Women's Home Nations Trophy, the Zurich Premiership Trophy and a crystal trophy presented to the England team from Charlton Athletic Football Club in recognition of their achievement.
