The redevelopment of Twickenham began over
a decade ago with the North Stand. This was followed by East and West
Stands which were completed by 1995. At that time although only partially
redeveloped it was one of the grandest, safest and largest capacity
venues in the world and the envy of many.
Twickenham is renowned throughout the world as
the home of English rugby. It is synonymous with rugby union around
the globe, world famous, and has an enormously rich tradition and
heritage.
The proposed redevelopment of the existing South
Stand at Twickenham, provides an opportunity to fully enclose and
surround the playing area with spectator terracing to produce a
complete and finished stadium.
In the last few years there have been significant
stadia developments, both in this country and around the world taking
stadia and spectator facilities to new levels. The proposals for
the redevelopment of the south end of the stadium will ensure that
Twickenham remains one of the world's foremost outstanding sporting
arenas.
